Diana rode up on Allegretto.

“I did miserably,” I said, barely able to look her in the eye.

“Don’t worry” She flapped a hand at me. “Just think of it as your first waffle class.”

I looked at her puzzled. “Waffles? What are you talking about, my first waffle class! You mean I will have other waffle classes?”

“No, not first as inaugural, first waffle, as in how the first waffle you make never comes out right-it sticks or it falls apart-so yo throw it away. By the second one, you get the formula right. Never worry about your first waffle. It’s just a practice run for your second waffle. It’s destiny. That’s part of my philosophy of life.”

I understood right away. My first marriage had been my first waffle marriage. I shouldn’t sweat it; my destiny would make the next waffle better.

“Wow Diana,” I said. “That’s profound!”

“I know,” she said. “That’s what I like about myself. Well gotta go, gotta show.”
